Frequently Asked

Questions

  • Why hire Tall Oak to create my website?
Anyone can build a website. In fact, we encourage the use of tools such as Wix and Canva for that very reason. Simply put, we just want to help you build and grow your brand. It's what we're passionate about and as a small business ourselves, we understand firsthand the challenges of trying to be everything and do everything on your own. That's why it's important to find reliable people, a team of professionals like us, to help you on your journey; to delegate to and relieve some of your workload; freeing up your time and energy to further your business.
  • Will I have control over my website?
Yes! Not only will we communicate throughout the process of building your website, but the reason we work exclusively with Wix platforms is so that Clients can have full control over the site once it's complete, should they choose not to move forward with our monthly maintenance plan. Please note that during any contractual payment agreements, minimal maintenance is included. Once your website is paid in full, you will have the option to continue on our monthly maintenance plan which can be cancelled at any time. Websites are initially created within our Tall Oaks Studio Wix account and transferred to you once the site is paid in full, where you will then have full access and control from then on.
  • What platform will you build my website on?
We work exclusively with Wix for a few reasons: Wix is the most user-friendly and intuitive program on the market. This makes it an ideal choice for both Designers and Non-Designers, allowing both parties to have control over the website at any time. Should a Client choose to maintain their own website once it is created, that is absolutely an option when working with Wix. Wix has top-notch customer support. In today's day and age, it is hard to find companies that stand behind their products in the way that Wix does, and for that reason alone, we highly recommend Wix to anyone. Wix is easy to understand. With endless options to customize, and an array of useful tools and apps, it's truly a great platform for brands and small businesses. SEO capabilities are a must, and when it comes to implementing these important details, Wix has a lot of tools and features to promote your online presence and improve discoverable performance in search engines such and Google and Yahoo, including structured data, automatic XML sitemaps, URL customization, robots meta tags and more. Additionally, Wix ensures that all websites created on the platform are mobile-friendly. This not only improves your visitors' experience but also contributes to better search rankings, as search engines prioritize mobile-responsive websites in their algorithms. Wix offers reliable hosting and security. They guarantee stable hosting with state-of-the-art infrastructure, ensuring fast loading times, a seamless browsing experience, and consistent availability. This reliability is essential for your site visitors to have a positive experience on your site, and to make sure it is accessible at all times. Wix also places a high priority on the security of your website and the protection of user data. The platform implements advanced security measures, including SSL certification, to encrypt data transmitted between your website and visitors. This encryption ensures a secure and private connection. Additionally, they take care of security updates and regularly monitor for potential threats, providing a proactive defense against vulnerabilities. Wix is free! Not every platform can say that it offers a free option, but with Wix you aren't required to pay to have a website. Of course, there are limitations to the free version, but your website can still be created and function for your brand or small business. We've only determined one drawback to using Wix, and that is that the platform doesn't allow Wix-built websites to be transferred to another website host. This means if you build a site within Wix, you are not given the option to move the site to another host, such as Shopify or MotoCMS, at a later date. The site would need to be redesigned in the new host.
  • What is Wix?
Wix is a website building platform designed for everyone. It's a code-free, drag-and-drop designing program with tools for all types of businesses. Wix has built-in features for eCommerce, marketing, scheduling, branding and so much more. Created in 2006, it's one of the leading web design platforms in the world, and one of the early adopters of new trends and technology, including AI.
  • What fees are involved in starting my website?
Here's a breakdown of what you can expect to pay when starting your website journey: Website Domain Website Hosting Website Design Email Hosting Google Ads ___________________________________________ 1. Website Domain Typically domains will range between $10-$25/year. Wix Domain Registration - avg $14.95/year, Additional Privacy Registration - $9.90/year Alternatively, you can Register a Domain with Godaddy. We will then connect your custom domain to your Wix hosting by updating the name servers in your GoDaddy account. With this connection method, Wix becomes your DNS host while your domain remains registered with GoDaddy. What is Privacy Registration? Domain names must have up-to-date contact information for the public Whois database (this is a requirement). This contact information is accessible to anyone (including marketing firms and spammers) but with Private Registration (or Domain Security) the public contact information will not be your contact information. Who owns the domain, if it's registered through Wix? You do. Wix (like Godaddy) is just helping you register the domain name — the domain name is yours and you move it to another domain name registrar at any time. 2. Website Hosting *Wix offers a 14 day trial, subscription money-back guarantee Wix Plans: Free - $0/mo Light - $16/mo (paid yearly) Core - $27/mo (paid yearly) *we recommend this plan for most small businesses Business - $32/mo (paid yearly) Business Elite - $159/mo (paid yearly) 3. Google Workspace (previously called Google G Suite) allows you to host your custom email address with Gmail software, which is convenient. It also includes 30GB of storage, and access to Google Calendar, Docs, Sheets and Slides. Each Wix mailbox costs $6.50/mo or $48/year. Wix often runs special offers to get 50% off your first year on annual plans. Alternatively, you have the option to connect your domain from another provider (such as Godaddy) where you may have purchased your custom domain, that offer Email Hosting plans. Godaddy email plans range from $7.99mo - $13.99/mo (billed yearly) depending on how many email addresses are needed. 5. Google Ads Google Ads can be a valuable marketing tool. As a small business, it's recommended to start with a small daily budget and adjust as needed, focusing on specific keywords and target audiences to maximize your return on investment (ROI). With an estimated monthly cost ranging from $50 to $500 or more, it's crucial to monitor your ad performance regularly and adjust your campaigns accordingly to ensure you're getting the most bang for your buck.

  • Why use Canva?
The rise of entrepreneurship and side hustles has led to a surge in demand for professional-looking graphics and documents. However, not everyone has the time or skills to design them themselves. That's where Canva comes in. This user-friendly design platform is perfect for non-designers, offering a gentle learning curve and a wealth of resources to help you get started. And the best part? It's free! Canva's premium plan, Pro, offers even more features, but at a very affordable price of $14.99 per month or $119.99 per year. With its vast library of free and paid elements, high-quality fonts, and stock photos, Canva can help you create professional-grade graphics and documents. Plus, it's accessible from anywhere, with both web-based and mobile apps available.
  • What is Canva?

Our templates feature free-use elements.
  • What can I use Canva templates for?
There is an endless array of opportunity when working with templates, and we hope to one day offer them all! Here are several ways in which people today are using templates: • Social media posts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, etc.) • Email marketing campaigns ( newsletters, promotional emails, etc.) • Blog articles and blog posts • Website headers and footers • Landing pages and sales pages • PowerPoint presentations • Infographics • Brochures and flyers • Posters and signage • Business cards and letterheads • Sales sheets and datasheets • Menus and recipes • Event invitations and programs • Training materials and educational resources • Product packaging and labeling • Advertising and promotional materials (print and digital)
  • Why purchase templates instead of designing them myself in Canva?
As Graphic Designers, we've crafted bundles of templates that are intentionally designed to work together seamlessly, creating a cohesive brand identity. Unlike Canva, which offers one-off designs that may not mesh well together, our bundles provide a consistent look and feel across all marketing materials. This means our clients can trust that their brand is projecting a professional, unified image, without having to worry about disparate designs. By choosing our bundles, you can ensure that your brand is well-represented and easily recognizable across multiple channels.
  • What happens if I purchase a template that has Pro elements and I only have a free Canva account?
Our templates are designed with elements from Canva's free library, or they're added from our personal stock archive. If, by chance, there should be a Pro element within one of your bundles, please promptly let us know! The Pro element can easily be replaced by a free element.
  • Can I edit my SVG, AI, PNG or EPS files in Canva?

In this software, you can make the most out of your editable files. AI files are not compatible with Canva, however you can import the Illustrator files if saved as a "PDF compatible format" file. PNG files can be uploaded to Canva, however they do not have the flexibility to be edited. EPS files are not a compatible file format for Canva.
